TWENDE Project
The TWENDE Project supports the sustainable development of the value chains, aimed at addressing critical environmental degradation, improving rangeland productivity, and enhancing community livelihoods. The project aims to provide targeted small grants to enterprises committed to ecosystem-based management practices, leading to significant environmental restoration, social impact, and economic growth.
Projects show how Mt Kenya Hub translates partnerships into visible delivery across climate, enterprise, training, technology, and community resilience work.
What this project delivered
Through the TWENDE Project, we identified critical gaps in strengthening cooperatives in the Honey, Camel Milk, Meat and Fodder and Gums and Resins Value Chains, operating in arid and semi-arid regions of Sabarwawa, Mid-Tana and Chyullu Hills. TWENDE procured and delivered in-kind grant items to enterprises and cooperatives in these value chains to increase productivity and equip them with strategies to mitigate the dry seasons.
As the grant management organization for CI's small grants program under the TWENDE Project, Mt Kenya Hub provides in-kind support to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), helping them expand their operations and improve climate resilience.
TWENDE project implemented in three landscapes across 11 counties facing challenges like weak capacity for landscape planning, poor access to climate data, and limited access to markets and financial services.
Implementation includes three components: Climate change adapted planning for drought resilience, Restoration of rangeland landscapes for ecosystem-based adaptation, and Climate change resilient ecosystem management for investments.
