Dragon Farm Cultures: Turning Dragon Fruit Into High-Value Market-Ready Products

For Mariane Wanjiru, the founder of Dragon FarmCultures Enterprise, the crop is dragon fruit, and the questions she is asking are opening upgenuinely exciting possibilities. Based in Nakuru and participating in the PINCA-Y 2026cohort, Dragon Farm Cultures is transforming fresh dragon fruit into a range of high-value,market-ready products including natural juice, jam and quality seedlings. The enterprise isalso anticipating the development of a scalable dragon fruit wine venture, which wouldrepresent a significant step in premium value-addition and open new commercial channelsfor the business.
Dragon fruit is still a relatively new crop in Kenya, which makes the work of Dragon FarmCultures both pioneering and strategic. By developing processing capabilities and buildinga range of derived products, Mariane is creating value at multiple points in the supplychain, reducing dependence on fresh fruit sales alone and building a more resilient anddiversified business model. The seedling arm of the enterprise also creates an importantconnection to the broader ecosystem of farmers who may wish to cultivate dragon fruitthemselves, positioning Dragon Farm Cultures as a supplier of both produce andagricultural knowledge.
